]]>If you’re a homeowner, you’d probably agree. No matter how careful you are with your unit, HVAC repairs are something you cannot fully avoid. However, you can make the experience a little more tolerable by doing some precautionary measures. That will ensure you wouldn’t have to shell out a large amount of cash on HVAC repairs. How? The answer is pretty simple; by doing preventative maintenance in a timely manner, and here’s why.
It Reduces the Occurrences of System Breakdowns
During the summer, the temperature inside the home rises and it can be very unpleasant to stay indoors. To combat the heat, you’d try to make your AC work extra hard just to make your home cooler. By doing that, you’re forcing your unit beyond its limits and this could trigger it to malfunction.
However, if you were to perform regular, scheduled maintenance, you’ll be able to minimize the occurrences where your air conditioner malfunctions. Aside from that, this would also allow you to save a considerable amount of cash in the long run. You wouldn’t have to spend a lot on replacements and hvac repairs.
During summer, heat waves are pretty normal in Boise. Because of that, the majority of those living in the hottest locations would resort to using their unit just to feel comfortable. However, to their dismay, they would find out that their unit isn’t even working at all. The reason behind that? It’s probably because it hasn’t been used for a long time. Now, they’re left with a unit that can’t even give them the pleasant temperature they crave for during a hot day. Since a lot of people are probably experiencing the same, it would be difficult to call a professional to service your unit.
This is why you have to plan ahead and arrange for scheduled repairs and maintenance. By doing so, you’ll have the assurance that the HVAC professional would have plenty of time to assess and solve the problem.
It has also been said that the perfect time to have your air conditioner serviced would be anywhere between spring and summer. Likewise, if possible, this should also be done when the weather is nice– usually during spring. By doing so, you’ll have the assurance that the HVAC service company you’re going to hire would be able to thoroughly assess the problem and ensure that if there are any issues, they’ll be able to resolve them right away. On the other hand, if you’re going to schedule the repair during ‘peak’ season, chances are, these professionals are fully booked.
Final Words
As a responsible owner living in Boise, obviously, you don’t want to face the issue of a malfunctioning unit, or encounter worse problems just because you fail to perform the scheduled maintenance. You have to ensure that those who are living in your home would feel safe and comfortable.

]]>When you need a home ac repair it is important to look for a professional with a proven track record. As with any repair industry fraud is rampant and prices can fluctuate widely from one company to the next. Our suggestion is if the cost to repair is in excess of $500 a second opinion is a good choice. Check out Google or Yelp reviews. Although reviews do not always tell the entire story, you can get a pretty good idea of what kind of company you are calling. It is also wise to consider a replacement unit if the cost to repair nears 50% of the replacement cost.
Why repair an old costly item if you can upgrade to a newer, more efficient model that has a warranty. Above all do not be rushed or pushed into a repair simply because you have the company there. Dishonest companies love to prey on your fear of discomfort and often raise the price hundreds of dollars. Banking on the fact that they are already there and you won’t call someone else now for fear of paying another service call. Many good companies offer a FREE 2nd opinion so it would cost you nothing to find out if the price is fair or not.
Home ac repair is often not an easy DYI (do it yourself) repair. Most ac units run on 230 volts and can have several breakers to disconnect power. In addition the problem with your ac can be in several places. Your ac system is directly tied to your furnace, a/c coil, as well as wiring between the two. For best results here are a few tips to possibly save a costly service call. Always check the thermostat settings to make sure you are asking for the unit to come on. Always check your breakers, remember there can be several for the ac and furnace units.
Filters, filters, filters, we cannot stress this enough. The most important thing you can do as a home owner to prevent a home ac repair is to use a good quality filter and replace it often. We go on literally hundreds of calls where the issue would not have been an issue if the filters were replaced more often.

]]>This costly ac repair Meridian Idaho could have been prevented. With just a few small steps to keep the beloved family pet away from the ac unit. This ac unit had been repeatedly marked by the loving pet as his territory. Many people do not know this but male dogs have a lot of ammonia in their urine. This causes a chemical reaction when added to aluminum. Which makes the aluminum rot away leaving only the copper tubing in its place. When this happens it disrupts the air flow through the unit causing more air to go through the open area. Leaving less air to actually cool the ac unit down. This causes lower efficiency of the unit and also tends to overheat the compressor.
Here at ac repair Boise we know these and help to prevent costly repairs such as this. A simple solution would have been to build a small fence around the ac unit to prevent the dog from gaining access to his favorite marking post. In addition we provide annual ac cleaning and tune ups, we wash the coils with chemical to prevent just such damage. Another good solution is plant evergreen or hedge type bushes around the ac unit. This has several benefits, it not only keeps the dog at bay but also looks much better and helps shade the ac unit from the heat of the sun. If you have a need for an ac repair Meridian Idaho? Or anywhere else in the Boise Valley area, trust the experts at ac repair Boise .com. For over 32 years we have been repairing and preventing just such repairs. We offer same day service in most cases and our prices are VERY competitive. We not only strive to give you the best possible service and repair but hope to help educate every customer on the operation and function of their HVAC equipment.

]]>I wanted to talk about a common ac repair Meridian caused by mans best friend. The most common is when your dog chews through the thermostat wires at the a/c unit and shorts them out. Not only does your dog get a small shock but it then burns out the transformer in your furnace causing you to have an ac repair Meridian Idaho. I had 1 customer 2 years ago that this happened too. We repaired the damage and warned him to fence off the a/c unit so it would not happen again. Four days later we had to come out and repair it again, and again 3 weeks after that. Thankfully after the 3rd repair he installed a fence around the a/c unit. Don’t worry he still loves both of his dogs.
The 2nd most common ac repair Meridian caused by dogs would be from male dogs making it known that this ac unit belongs to them! That is right you guessed it, Dog urine. Male dog urine contains a high amount of ammonia, this causes a chemical reaction on the aluminum fins of the ac unit and starts to turn them into powder and eventually causing them to disappear entirely. This can cause both a Freon leak and low cooling due to overheating. These aluminum fins are what removes the heat form the ac unit to allow it to cool. With less fins the ac unit has less cooling resulting in an ac repair. Once this has occurred there is not turning back the clock. The fins are gone forever and the only way to fix it is to replace the ac unit itself. The best thing to do here is if you have a male dog make sure you build a fence around the ac unit before he makes it his own. We all love spending money on our best friends but I am guessing $1600 on an ac repair Meridian isn’t in the budget for their play toys.
Follow the advice above, have your system cleaned and serviced at least every two years and this will help you to prevent an unexpected ac repair Meridian Idaho. We hope this has helped or at least provided you with a well needed coffee break. Look for other helpful advice and money saving tips on our blog site. We are here to help, call the honest professionals!

]]>The post Freon R22 – Freon – Refrigerant appeared first on AC Repair Boise.
]]>Freon ® is a trade name give to refrigerants by DuPont. These are most commonly used in refrigeration and air conditioning units. They have also been used as propellants in aerosol cans as well as many other uses. Refrigerants were developed at first by General Motors wanting to replace more dangerous chemicals such as ammonia. There are many different types and makers of refrigerants. They are most still commonly called Freon by home owners, after DuPonts original trade name. Due to the Montreal Protocol Act most refrigerants are now regulated or banned completely from manufacturing. Of those, r-12 (used mainly in cars, refrigerators). R-11 used for chillers, aerosol cans, and cleaning). R-502 (used for freezers, and cooling boxes) are no longer allowed to be manufactured in most countries.
R-22 which it mainly use in air conditioning has been limited in its production and is set to be phased out with-in the a few years. Although you can still buy most of these refrigerants some are no longer “virgin” and are getting more expensive by the year.
Most ac units still use r-22 and it is still available to purchase. It can still be manufactured in the US, although the cost has more than tripled in the last 3 years. R-22 is odorless, colorless and non toxic as it sits. It is made up of methane, chlorine and Florine gases. The main health risk comes from breathing in to much Freon and displacing the oxygen in your lungs.
Due to the growing cost of Freon ® r-22 we suggest that if your system becomes low, you find where the leak is. Or why the Freon is low before just adding more. In the long run it is much cheaper to repair the issue than to continue to add refrigerant over and over. For this and any other a/c or heating repair needs, give us a call at 208 898-9888 and continue reading our blogs for more useful information.

]]>The post Air Conditioning Repair Meridian – Capacitors appeared first on AC Repair Boise.
]]>Today’s air conditioning repair Meridian tip is about capacitors. A capacitor is a device that is used on most motors in your ac. The purpose of a capacitor is to help with the turning motion to start the motor. When you have an air conditioning repair Meridian caused by a capacitor the motor will either not start at all or it will quickly overheat.
Most capacitors are silver in color and shaped like a sphere. Often times when they go bad they are easy to spot because they will be puffed up as if they exploded. Other times you will need to use a capacitor checker to see what reading you have. The proper reading will be listed on the side of the capacitor such as 10uf. When using a capacitor checker your reading should be no less than 10% of listed value. Anything lower is considered bad and could damage your motor. A capacitor is a simple repair taking only minutes and costing from $110-$180 depending on the size. Don’t be fooled, we have noticed companies charging double or triple these amounts. So if you are having an air conditioning repair Meridian it might help to know a bit about capacitors.
At AC Repair Boise we are here to keep you cool and informed about your HVAC repairs. Always ask questions, be informed and do not be afraid to ask to see them check the old and new part to show you it was bad. Check out our blog sight for more helpful tips on repairs and maintaining your heating and air conditioning system, and call us for any questions you might have.
The capacitor in the picture is what is called a duel capacitor, meaning it handles more than one motor. This one is a 60/5 meaning the reading for the compressor side of the capacitor is 60uf and the fan side is 5uf. It is possible for just 1 side to be bad. Stay informed and stay cool!

]]>The post AC Repair Boise Pricing appeared first on AC Repair Boise.
]]>AC repair Boise pricing is not all as it seems. We have all heard variations of the saying, but my favorite is “Nothing is Free in Cancun”. I came up with this versions while on vacation in Cancun with my children. We went to see one of the many ruins in Mexico and one of my kids had to use the bathroom. As he approached the public bathroom a young kid about his age told him it was 2000 pesos ($0.50) to use the bathroom. After that it was coined forever anytime something was to good to be true, or priced ridiculously it was said “Nothing is free in Cancun”.
With this in mind I want to speak to all of you about pricing in the ac repair industry. Over the last 33 years I have seen many changes in this industry. Two that are particularly irritating to me have to do with pricing. The first is the “trip charge” or service call. This is the amount you pay to have them show up and tell you what is wrong. Normally this is their hourly rate and included the first hour of labor. Recently however there is a new trend where they charge an unreal low trip charge to lure you into calling them only to highly inflate the repair. See these companies figure they are already out there, so the chances of you calling someone else now is not very high. Thus they have you! Do not be fooled by this, call for a second opinion or price quote.
The 2nd pricing trick is really labeled “Nothing is free in Cancun”. For this one they send you a flyer telling you they are overstocked on furnaces and if you HELP them out by buying one of these furnaces they will gladly give you a FREE air conditioner in return. Of course they will!? Companies that use this ac repair Boise pricing scam are insulting your intelligence. Truth is you are going to pay about $5000 for a furnace, ac and coil. Or your going to pay about $5000 for a furnace and coil, then get a free ac unit. Most local companies do not even stock furnaces and ac units. There is no need to, we have local distributors who stock all the equipment. Do your homework when calling a repair company. Here at ac repair Boise we are here to help. Remember “Nothing is Free in Cancun”.

]]>Here is how to prevent an ac repair Boise. Your ac filters are one of the simplest, most important ways you can prolong the life of your equipment. The filters you choose and how long before you change them again are very important. Most people believe that the filters main purpose is to clean the air in the home. Actually this is a secondary function of the filter. The main reason you have filters in your system is to keep your indoor coil clean and free of debris. Without a filter all the stuff you see on your filter would now be clogging up your fan motor cooling vents as well as the fins on your coil. When this happens you end up with an ac repair Boise because the air cannot get through your coil. This will cause the system to freeze up, in addition clogging the cooling vents of your fan motor will cause it to overheat and fail prematurely.
What type of filters are best to help prevent an ac repair Boise? Good question because there are a lot of filters to choose from. You would think the thickest most expensive filters must be the best right? Wrong! When a filter is to thick it will slow down the air flow through your unit causing other issues such as over heating. Thick filters that are not designed for your system will cause higher utility bills and other unwanted issues. We suggest a good quality (MERV 8-10) pleated filter. Something with a lot of cardboard and wire mess for strength, usually costing between $7 and $12. These filters will not only improve your indoor air quality but also help protect your heating and cooling system from damaging dirt, dust and hair.
For most systems replacing these filters every 6 months is fine. In some cases however it may be necessary to replace them every 3 months. a good way to tell if the filter has been in to long is to take it out and look at it. If you can see dirt on the filter, light cannot easily pass through it or if it has drastic changed color then it is past due for a change. remember the more you run your fan, clean your house or run your a/c and heating system the faster the filters will get dirty. If you have further questions or happen to have an ac repair Boise, please give us a call at (208) 898-9888 anytime we would be glad to help.
