]]>A key component for an ac repair Emmett, is Freon. Freon is a trademarked name for refrigerant created by Dupont, in this case the refrigerant is r-22. R-22 has been used in air conditioners for well over 50 years now and is still the #1 used refrigerant in America. Due to changes in the law it becoming less available and thus more expensive. Current average cost for a pound of r-22 runs about $125 to $200. Some companies are telling customers that r-22 is no longer available, this is not true. Refrigerant 22 is still readily available and used in older equipment from 1946 to 2015. If you have one of the systems it is important to have that system serviced regularly and have the level of Freon checked to make sure it is not developing a leak. You see the secret no one wants to tell you is that r-22 lasts forever in your system as long as it does not leak out. Thus it is very possible to have you system NEVER need r-22 for it’s entire life.
Having quality parts is essential for an ac repair Emmett. Having the wrong part or a cheap universal part installed is not a quality repair. We stock the factory control board for most popular furnace and air conditioning units. We do not use “universal” control boards unless their is no other choice. Installing the wrong parts into your system can cause future issues and breakdowns. As discussed above with refrigerant, their are alternatives to r-22 as well but none that work as well as the refrigerant your system was designed for. Never let a company put an alternative refrigerant in your system, the small cost savings is not worth the possible effect on your comfort.

]]>Freon repair for residential ac units is now becoming a large issue. Based on the EPA guidelines for phasing out of r-22, no new production of r-22 (commonly known as Freon® 22) will be allowed after 2020. After 2020 we will only have available recycled refrigerant. Because of this the cost is soaring out of sight. This makes a good Freon repair more important than ever. You do not need a new ac unit, or some temporary (almost works) r-22 replacement. You just need a good Freon repair that lasts and doesn’t leak.
Most systems built before 2014 contain r-22 refrigerant. This refrigerant is also known as Freon® 22 and is now very expensive. If you system is low on r-22, it is very important to find and repair the leak properly so it doesn’t cost even more money in the near future. To find a leak we look for oil spots left behind by the gas escaping. We also use expensive leak detectors that sniff for chlorine (a key element in r-22). Other ways we locate leaks are with common soap covering the welded joints to look for bubbles.
The cost for the repair usually isn’t the issue. Finding and the repairing is generally from $125 to about $300. The real cost comes from adding r-22 back into the system. At current the price for r-22 runs about $100 to $125 per pound. Some companies even charging per ounce! The amount of refrigerant you need is usually marked on the name plate of your ac system. This amount is close but you usually will need a bit more to cover the line set and indoor coil. An average system holds about 6 pounds bring a simple Freon repair to about $800. In some cases the indoor coil may be leaking and unable to be repaired. In such cases we would need to replace the indoor coil and then charge the system back up.
The new indoor coils we install work both with r-22 and the new 410-a refrigerant. There are also several “replacement” refrigerants available for use on r-22 systems however we have not had very good luck with any we have tried thus far and prefer to keep your system in its original form. Call us for the best possible repair on your ac system. We find the leak, we fix the leak and get you back to comfortable.

If you’re a homeowner, you’d probably agree. No matter how careful you are with your unit, HVAC repairs are something you cannot fully avoid. However, you can make the experience a little more tolerable by doing some precautionary measures. That will ensure you wouldn’t have to shell out a large amount of cash on HVAC repairs. How? The answer is pretty simple; by doing preventative maintenance in a timely manner, and here’s why.
It Reduces the Occurrences of System Breakdowns
During the summer, the temperature inside the home rises and it can be very unpleasant to stay indoors. To combat the heat, you’d try to make your AC work extra hard just to make your home cooler. By doing that, you’re forcing your unit beyond its limits and this could trigger it to malfunction.
However, if you were to perform regular, scheduled maintenance, you’ll be able to minimize the occurrences where your air conditioner malfunctions. Aside from that, this would also allow you to save a considerable amount of cash in the long run. You wouldn’t have to spend a lot on replacements and hvac repairs.
During summer, heat waves are pretty normal in Boise. Because of that, the majority of those living in the hottest locations would resort to using their unit just to feel comfortable. However, to their dismay, they would find out that their unit isn’t even working at all. The reason behind that? It’s probably because it hasn’t been used for a long time. Now, they’re left with a unit that can’t even give them the pleasant temperature they crave for during a hot day. Since a lot of people are probably experiencing the same, it would be difficult to call a professional to service your unit.
This is why you have to plan ahead and arrange for scheduled repairs and maintenance. By doing so, you’ll have the assurance that the HVAC professional would have plenty of time to assess and solve the problem.
It has also been said that the perfect time to have your air conditioner serviced would be anywhere between spring and summer. Likewise, if possible, this should also be done when the weather is nice– usually during spring. By doing so, you’ll have the assurance that the HVAC service company you’re going to hire would be able to thoroughly assess the problem and ensure that if there are any issues, they’ll be able to resolve them right away. On the other hand, if you’re going to schedule the repair during ‘peak’ season, chances are, these professionals are fully booked.
Final Words
As a responsible owner living in Boise, obviously, you don’t want to face the issue of a malfunctioning unit, or encounter worse problems just because you fail to perform the scheduled maintenance. You have to ensure that those who are living in your home would feel safe and comfortable.

]]>When you need a home ac repair it is important to look for a professional with a proven track record. As with any repair industry fraud is rampant and prices can fluctuate widely from one company to the next. Our suggestion is if the cost to repair is in excess of $500 a second opinion is a good choice. Check out Google or Yelp reviews. Although reviews do not always tell the entire story, you can get a pretty good idea of what kind of company you are calling. It is also wise to consider a replacement unit if the cost to repair nears 50% of the replacement cost.
Why repair an old costly item if you can upgrade to a newer, more efficient model that has a warranty. Above all do not be rushed or pushed into a repair simply because you have the company there. Dishonest companies love to prey on your fear of discomfort and often raise the price hundreds of dollars. Banking on the fact that they are already there and you won’t call someone else now for fear of paying another service call. Many good companies offer a FREE 2nd opinion so it would cost you nothing to find out if the price is fair or not.

Can your ac last this long?
Home ac repair is often not an easy DYI (do it yourself) repair. Most ac units run on 230 volts and can have several breakers to disconnect power. In addition the problem with your ac can be in several places. Your ac system is directly tied to your furnace, a/c coil, as well as wiring between the two. For best results here are a few tips to possibly save a costly service call. Always check the thermostat settings to make sure you are asking for the unit to come on. Always check your breakers, remember there can be several for the ac and furnace units.
Filters, filters, filters, we cannot stress this enough. The most important thing you can do as a home owner to prevent a home ac repair is to use a good quality filter and replace it often. We go on literally hundreds of calls where the issue would not have been an issue if the filters were replaced more often.

new 13 SEER Payne a/c unit
This costly ac repair Meridian Idaho could have been prevented. With just a few small steps to keep the beloved family pet away from the ac unit. This ac unit had been repeatedly marked by the loving pet as his territory. Many people do not know this but male dogs have a lot of ammonia in their urine. This causes a chemical reaction when added to aluminum. Which makes the aluminum rot away leaving only the copper tubing in its place. When this happens it disrupts the air flow through the unit causing more air to go through the open area. Leaving less air to actually cool the ac unit down. This causes lower efficiency of the unit and also tends to overheat the compressor.
Here at ac repair Boise we know these and help to prevent costly repairs such as this. A simple solution would have been to build a small fence around the ac unit to prevent the dog from gaining access to his favorite marking post. In addition we provide annual ac cleaning and tune ups, we wash the coils with chemical to prevent just such damage. Another good solution is plant evergreen or hedge type bushes around the ac unit. This has several benefits, it not only keeps the dog at bay but also looks much better and helps shade the ac unit from the heat of the sun. If you have a need for an ac repair Meridian Idaho? Or anywhere else in the Boise Valley area, trust the experts at ac repair Boise .com. For over 32 years we have been repairing and preventing just such repairs. We offer same day service in most cases and our prices are VERY competitive. We not only strive to give you the best possible service and repair but hope to help educate every customer on the operation and function of their HVAC equipment.

]]>I wanted to talk about a common ac repair Meridian caused by mans best friend. The most common is when your dog chews through the thermostat wires at the a/c unit and shorts them out. Not only does your dog get a small shock but it then burns out the transformer in your furnace causing you to have an ac repair Meridian Idaho. I had 1 customer 2 years ago that this happened too. We repaired the damage and warned him to fence off the a/c unit so it would not happen again. Four days later we had to come out and repair it again, and again 3 weeks after that. Thankfully after the 3rd repair he installed a fence around the a/c unit. Don’t worry he still loves both of his dogs.
The 2nd most common ac repair Meridian caused by dogs would be from male dogs making it known that this ac unit belongs to them! That is right you guessed it, Dog urine. Male dog urine contains a high amount of ammonia, this causes a chemical reaction on the aluminum fins of the ac unit and starts to turn them into powder and eventually causing them to disappear entirely. This can cause both a Freon leak and low cooling due to overheating. These aluminum fins are what removes the heat form the ac unit to allow it to cool. With less fins the ac unit has less cooling resulting in an ac repair. Once this has occurred there is not turning back the clock. The fins are gone forever and the only way to fix it is to replace the ac unit itself. The best thing to do here is if you have a male dog make sure you build a fence around the ac unit before he makes it his own. We all love spending money on our best friends but I am guessing $1600 on an ac repair Meridian isn’t in the budget for their play toys.
Follow the advice above, have your system cleaned and serviced at least every two years and this will help you to prevent an unexpected ac repair Meridian Idaho. We hope this has helped or at least provided you with a well needed coffee break. Look for other helpful advice and money saving tips on our blog site. ]]>The post Carbon Monoxide – CO – Carbon Monoxide Poisoning appeared first on AC Repair Boise.
]]>Carbon monoxide (CO) is an odorless, colorless gas produced by the burning of something. In this case fossil fuels such as propane or natural gas. All furnaces that use these fuel sources produce carbon monoxide at some level. Carbon monoxide is created by burning organic materials and is made worse when not enough oxygen is used when burning these fuels. CO becomes dangerous to humans at levels from 35 to 50 parts per million (ppm). The higher the ppm and the longer the exposure the more harmful it is. Carbon monoxide is harmful to humans because it stops the absorption of oxygen to the body. Symptoms of CO poisoning include nausea, dizziness, headaches and feeling weak or tired. The smaller the person the greater the effects are usually felt.
For this blog we will stick with the causes for the presence of CO related to your furnace or water heater. In both of these natural gas or propane is burned in a metal chamber and then exhausted out a flue. If this chamber (heat exchanger) is cracked or split in anyway then the burned gases now have access to the air stream. If the flue for these appliances is cracked, separated, or clogged this can also cause CO to enter your home. In addition if the flue exits your home near an open window or door then carbon monoxide can be pulled into your home.
For the best prevention of these EVERY home with a gas appliance should have several CO detectors. At least one per floor but even better is one within 6 feet of each bedroom. These detectors are inexpensive and most can be plugged into a normal wall outlet. Another way to help protect your family is to have these appliances serviced and checked on a regular basis. If your carbon monoxide detector does go off, open your windows, shut off the gas supply to your appliances and leave the home. Call us so we may check them for safety. Keep in mind that many things create carbon monoxide, your car, furnace , water heater even gas ranges and fire places. Be safe have them checked annually.

]]>The post Cracked Heat Exchanger appeared first on AC Repair Boise.
]]>Many companies today are looking for and reporting more cracked heat exchangers than ever before. We wanted to post a blog about this so consumers know a bit more about the subject. Let’s start by explaining what a heat exchanger is and what it does. A heat exchanger on a gas furnace is a metal box in which flames pass through as they go from your furnace to your flue. Exchangers sit in the air stream of the house air and are sealed so that the two never meet.
When you have a crack in this box a few things are likely to happen. The first is that the pressure from the indoor fan motor pushing air through the furnace can cause the flames to roll out into the furnace cabinet. This can cause a fire, carbon monoxide into the surrounding air, or hopefully just result in a tripped safety switch. The second major issue is that the carbon monoxide from the heat exchanger can be passed through to the indoor air stream. This is going to allow it to directly enter your home every time your furnace runs. CO is a very poisonous gas (see blog carbon monoxide) and is nothing to take lightly. Let me add that any service company that finds a crack should shut the furnace down and inform you of the danger.
Now the stuff they won’t tell you. Most furnace heat exchangers are warrantied for 20 years. I can’t tell you the times we’ve been told of someone needing a new furnace only to find out it is under warranty. Replacing an 80% heat exchanger is a simple repair and will bring most furnaces back to normal operation. Many brands are known for having cracked heat exchangers so technicians know just where to look on that brand. In many cases the heat exchanger has been cracked for years. Most cracks are small and do not leak CO, yet. However a crack is a crack, at any time a crack can become larger and cause serious issues. Furthermore welding the crack is NOT an acceptable option. If any company offers to repair the heat exchanger in any way make sure you call another company.
I hope this blog has helped you understand heat exchangers and what they do. For more information on this and other subject be sure and check our blog site regularly. If you need assistance be sure and give us a call at (208) 898-9888. For all of your heating and cooling repair needs, Call the honest experts!

]]>The post Freon R22 – Freon – Refrigerant appeared first on AC Repair Boise.
]]>Freon ® is a trade name give to refrigerants by DuPont. These are most commonly used in refrigeration and air conditioning units. They have also been used as propellants in aerosol cans as well as many other uses. Refrigerants were developed at first by General Motors wanting to replace more dangerous chemicals such as ammonia. There are many different types and makers of refrigerants. They are most still commonly called Freon by home owners, after DuPonts original trade name. Due to the Montreal Protocol Act most refrigerants are now regulated or banned completely from manufacturing. Of those, r-12 (used mainly in cars, refrigerators). R-11 used for chillers, aerosol cans, and cleaning). R-502 (used for freezers, and cooling boxes) are no longer allowed to be manufactured in most countries.
R-22 which it mainly use in air conditioning has been limited in its production and is set to be phased out with-in the a few years. Although you can still buy most of these refrigerants some are no longer “virgin” and are getting more expensive by the year.
Most ac units still use r-22 and it is still available to purchase. It can still be manufactured in the US, although the cost has more than tripled in the last 3 years. R-22 is odorless, colorless and non toxic as it sits. It is made up of methane, chlorine and Florine gases. The main health risk comes from breathing in to much Freon and displacing the oxygen in your lungs.
Due to the growing cost of Freon ® r-22 we suggest that if your system becomes low, you find where the leak is. Or why the Freon is low before just adding more. In the long run it is much cheaper to repair the issue than to continue to add refrigerant over and over. For this and any other a/c or heating repair needs, give us a call at 208 898-9888 and continue reading our blogs for more useful information.
